In Honor! Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day Krafters!
Today is special to me because it is not only the unofficial start of summer, but it is time to reflect on the men and women who served our country. I was in the Army and enjoyed my time serving. I went on to the Reserves and was honorably discharged a few years ago. I honestly can say, I was in the best physical shape of my life and I learned a lot about myself during boot camp and AIT training. So to the men and women who served past, present and future, THANK YOU!
Ok, first off I have to admit, I am not a scrapbooker! However, I wanted to share a quick layout I did in honor of today. I decided to scrap my military id.
This is a 12x12 layout. The background paper is from the DCWV line Trade Winds. I also used a pattern from the Old World Stack and Making Memories, Just Chillin’ paper stack. I know I took a risk with the pp choices because they are from different lines and manufactures. The good thing is there are no rules to scrapbooking J. Anywho, I wanted to have camo paper because I was in my BDUs when I took the photo. I also wanted red, white and blue on the layout.
I cut the shapes from the Label 1 Nestibilities. I also stamped the stars on acetate and colored the images in with Smooch. Using the Hello Kitty cartridge, the title is also made from acetate colored with alcohol ink. Finally I made the flowers and added the Army seal to the middle.

TGIS!

Happy Saturday Krafters!
TGIS! I am so happy today is Saturday and it is an extended weekend. Although it is cloudy outside, it is warm. Today, I want to share with you my final graduation card for the week. I wanted to do something. However, it is very simple.
This is a standard A2 card. I used the Cricut Imagine for the pattern papers (I know, no DCWV…gasp LOL). I also used the Wrap It Up and Imagine More cartridges for the images.
To finish off the card, I tied some embroidery floss around the top note shape and inked around the edges.

Graduates of 2011!

Hello Krafters!

I am bringing yet another graduation card. It is funny what simple things can inspire a card. My husband was looking at a cd cover and I thought, wow the way it was folded; this would make a cool card!
This card is a 4x4 card. I took a 12x12 sheet of Bazzill cardstock and cut to 4”x12”. Using the Martha Stewart scor board, I scored the cardstock at 4”and 8” to make a tri-fold. I then cut the outer sections in half to make triangles.
I layered black cardstock on the base and toped that with a sheet of pp from the DCWV High-school Stack. I then took Nesties, and cut out the shape, ran the yellow cardstock through the Cuttlebug and added a cap, also using the DCWV High-school pattern paper.

Ready…Set…Soar!

Hello Krafters!
Many people lives will transition over the summer. Some will travel, while others are making preparations to enter into college or a new career. This is a bitter-sweet time for me. Although my children are too young to leave the nest, my god-daughter is not. She is in the final stages of choosing a college. As far as I know, she will be going out of state. I will miss seeing her. However, I watched her grow from a girl to a lovely young lady. I am proud of her and I can’t wait to find out what school she decides to attend in the late summer.
Where I live, graduation season starts this week!  Here is a quick card using the DCWV High-School stack.

I used the Locker Talk cartridge (graduation cap) and A Child’s Year cartridge (diploma). The two images were welded together in the Gypsy to make this shape card.
I made the tassel out of embroidery thread. Since I bought the fastener, I figured I should use it. I used it to hold the tassel together. It is held on the cap with a brad.

It's A Boy!

Hello Krafters!
Today marks the final day of Celebration Week! It has been and thanks being a part of it. We had a card about me, a couple graduation cards, wedding card….What better way to end the week by celebrating a baby shower!
Diaper cake:
I cut a 10” circle out of chip board for the base and covered it with patterned paper.
Then I added a little lace around the base with a glue gun. Warning, use a tool if you can because the glue is HOT!

Here I took a tube from wrapping paper and cut it down to approximately 13” and cut the bottom to support the diapers. I added hot glue to adhere it to the base. Inside the support tube, there are wipes and diapers inside.

I rolled each diaper and added them to build the cake. Once I had the form of the cake, I used Electric Blue glimmer mist to make the white ribbon blue since I did not have any on hand. I cut shapes from the Nursery Tails Cricut Imagine cartridge at three inches and Designer’s Calendar Cricut cartridge. The “It’s A Boy” cuts on the center tier are 4”.
For the top of the cake, I used the Sizzix Create-A-Bow die. Disclaimer: use a large brad, not mini brads to hold the pieces together.  The paper says It’s A Boy.
Here is the final product before adding cellophane:
The card:
Standard A2 card. For the background paper or walls in this case, I used yellow Bazzill cardstock and ran it through the Cuttlebug using the Swiss Dots embossing folder. I also used DCWV Nana’s Kids for the pattern paper. The scallop is Bazzill Edge or the crown molding. I added a little brown cardstock as the floor.
The crib and chair I cut on my Gazelle since I did not have a rocking chair or crib on a cartridge. That is what I love about the Gazelle and Make-the-Cut software. If I don’t have what I need, I can find an image, trace it and cut it out! I also made a window pane in the program. I cut the moon and stars from the Pooh and Friends cartridge because I like how those looked on that particular cartridge.
I took a punch to make the clock pieces and hand cut the hands. I used the same It’s A Boy pattern paper used in the diaper cake so the card will have a similar element. I put a brad in the center of the clock.
To finish off the card, I added two teddy bear brads; one at the foot of the crib and one in the rocking chair. I hand cut the blanket, valence, mattress inside the crib and seat cushions.
I might make a few changes to the card, but overall, it works.

Love Is In The Air!

Happy Friday Krafters!
As we enter into the weekend and celebration week is nearing its end, I want to share a wedding card I made for a friend who is getting married tomorrow, May 21. Her wedding colors are black, white, silver and hunter green. My goal was to use all of her colors in this one card without making the card be too busy.
This is an A2 card (4.25x5.5). I used the DCWV The Formal Affair paper stack for the back ground paper (4x5.25) and Linen Closet for the scalloped oval. The shapes were cut with Spellbinders’ Nestabilities. I used the D’vine swirls Cuttlebug folder (My favorite) in the white top note shape. I added silver fox smooch around the shape. I took a 1.5 inch scallop punch to make the flowers, 3 layers each, and added hunter green dimensional paint in the center of each flower.
To finish off the card, I added silver and white shear ribbon and tied a bow. I took pieces of Prima flourish and placed it under the flower for an elegant touch.  To finish off the card, and add a little more hunter green, I added three dots in the corner and did faux stitching with a white gel pen.
Thanks for looking.

Let's Hear It For The Boys!

Continuing with the celebration, I have a few young men from my church graduating in two weeks. I have to admit, I don't get an opportunity to make cards or projects for males. So I did struggle a bit. I tried to stay as masculine without going girly. I am not completely happy with it because it seem like it is missing something, but learned over the course of the year that sometimes less is good enough.

I cut "congrats" out from the DCWV Metallic Stack and the blue shadow is cardstock from my stash. I replaced the star that was originally attached to the congrats cut and replaced it with a graduation cap. A black brad was used to hold the tassel in place. I used the Script Cuttlebug embossing folder on the black cardstock although it hard to see from the photo. I pulled out my scallop deco scissors (cut opposite way as opposed to the scalloped edge) to cut a frame around the white and added silver brads. Not the prettiest of cards, but thank you for looking ;-P

P.S. Don't forget to leave a message on Tuesday's posting for a chance to win in the giveaway. Winner will be announced Saturday, May, 21 by noon CST

A Reason to Celebrate!

Hello Krafters!
Graduation season is amongst us! If you don't know by now, I LOVE DCWV paper! I use the papers in 95% of the projects I use. Anyway, I have several people graduating in the upcoming weeks so I will be busy making graduation cards. In light of the season, here is a graduation card that I made for my god-daughter who is graduating from high school:

As mentioned, I love DCWV and I used the coordinating paper to Royal Garden for the gold paper. I used a Cuttlebug folder to emboss the design. For the life of me, I never remember the names of the folders! I really wish they would put the names on the folders. Of course, I could do that myself, but I forget as I am opening up something new LOL!  I also used purple Core'dinations cardstock. Finally, I used a couple pieces of small pattern paper from my stash.

I have to thank Sarah for the bows on the banner; what a great touch to finish off the card! I also tied a bow on the diploma to give a 3-D effect even though it is a flat cut. To add a little more dimension and realist effect, I added liquid pearls on the cap and banner.

This is an A2 sized card. I used the Gypsy to design it. Thank you for looking!

Materials:

Locker Talk Cartridge for the cap (1.5")
A Child's Year for the diploma (1")
Country Life for the banner (1"x1")
Cuttlebug folder (don't remember the name but from the Deco Set)
DCWV Royal Garden mat stack
Core'dinations

Kick Start!

Hello and welcome! I am new to the blogging world as you can see. I honestly never thought that I would do something like this. I am generally a private person who has recently started coming out of my social shell. While it is safe to say I might not ever come completely out, I am willing to venture farther than I have. I enjoy crafting, card making, scrapbooking and cooking. The following project includes a couple of my enjoyments:

To kick start the blog, here is a project that I did for a Pampered Chef party a little while ago. I used the Cricut Expression  along with the Gypsy and Imagine to create this card. The card was designed in the Gypsy using French Manor and From My Kitchen.
What makes the Imagine so great is the ability to have any color at your finger tips. I was able to customize the colors for the entire card. I used the patterns from the Imagine More cartridge for the seat cushions. Since this was a Pampered Chef party which focuses on kitchen utensils, it was only befitting to take the theme and run with it. I incorporated some utensils and bowls.
To finish off the card to make it look "homey" I cut out a frame (handmade), distressed the "photo" and printed out Pampered Chef or Bust on the printer in coordinating colors.
Thank you all for coming by. I hope you enjoyed your time here. Come back and visit!
