Journey-Scraps of Color DT Project

Hi Krafters!

Here's the first project of 2014! As many of you know, I like to make something out of nothing. I feel confident in saying, most of you do too! I am a member of the audio ministry at my local place of worship. Sometimes, the CDs do not copy correctly or we throw away the clear filler disc. I have shared an etching project using them. Well today, I have a mini album using the "throw aways".

For this project, I used the CDs and KaiserCraft's 75 Cent paper collection. The good thing about the CDs is the fact you will have a sturdy photo album. I also used the Mod Podge Molds and other random embellishments. To make the process faster and easier, I used a Cricut E2 preloaded cartridge to cut the circles to fit the discs. I sized them at 4.75; which was perfect!

This is an album for my husband so I wanted to keep it simple. So I focused on the front of the album more than the inside. I used Old Paper Crackle Paint, Stencils and Stucco (Martha Stewart) for interest and texture. The gears were made using the Gear Spellbinder Dies. They were colored with Copper Inka Gold. I used Scrabble pieces for his initials. The title was colored with copper mixatives and I used a flourish by Zva (just for a touch of bling).

The inside was simply embellished with charms made with the molds and extra gears. I also added a photo mat for pictures and he can write journaling (I doubt he will) on the pattern paper if he chooses to.

That's it! What are some old products or "throw aways" do you like to bring new life to? I would LOVE to know!  Thanks for stopping by, Krafthead~

Day 24-OCTC

Happy Christmas Eve Krafters!
Christmas is TOMORROW! Can you believe it? Well today, I would like to share a project I did with my oldest (the other girls was just in the room playing with boxes LOL). We call DH’s dad Grand Pa Pa (you have to roll the “R” off your tongue). He is really not into Christmas, but we wanted to do something for him. Each year he buys them pajamas, so I decided to have DH take a picture of all of the girls in their pjs and present him with that.
It is no secret that I really struggle with masculine projects. You would think with four brothers and a husband, I wouldn’t…the irony! While it is not perfect, I really like how it turned out! It is a special gift that my daughters were involved in making, yet it is made just for Grand Pa Pa! Only thing left is to print the picture and add~
I hope you enjoyed today’s project! Thanks for stopping by, Krafthead~

First Altered Box~

Happy Saturday Krafters!
I would like to finish out the week of “firsts” by sharing with you the first box I altered. It was an awkward box because of the opening.  I still had a lot of fun making it.
I painted the entire box with Folk Art Metallic Gold Paint. Once that dried, I painted it with Picket Fence Distress Crackle Paint. I dried it with a heat gun. I then used Antique Linen Distress Stain to take away some of the whiteness of the crackle paint. While that was drying, I cut down couple pieces of The Paper Studio’s Antiquity paper pack. I distressed the edges with Antique Linen Distress Ink. I applied the paper using Mod Podge.
While I was waiting for the Mod Podge to dry, I used the stain to color white lace. I also made some roses using some fabric I had in my stash. For the leaf, I colored it with the same metallic paint I used for the box. After everything dried, I assembled everything on the front, back and sides of the box.
For the top box, I cut some butterflies using the MS Butterfly Punch and from a small punch. I also made a stick pen. I used the flowers I made and placed those on some fabric which was also stained. I added the pearls for a finished look. For the feet, I used some balls from some old hair bows. I painted those in that gold paint.
In the inside, I used some extra paper, lace and flowers that were left over. I really enjoyed sharing most of my firsts with each of you. Thank you for the comments and words of encouragement that were left. Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Krafthead~
