Family-Scraps of Color DT Project

Hello Krafters!

I’m here to share a project that was inspired by Renee about a year ago. Tiles can be purchased at the home improvement store for less than a dollar. If you are like me, I have vinyl just lying around. For less than $5 you can make a beautiful custom gift for Christmas, house warming parties, Mother’s Day, baby showers, wedding gifts and more. I assure you, it will be a gift that will be cherished for many years to come.

You will need:
Tile (4x4, 6x6, 8x8 or 12x12)
Vinyl
Transfer tape
Weeding tool
Electronic cutter that can use 3rd party software
Software (Silhouette Studio, SCAL, FunTime, MTC)

Every program is different, but the concept is the same. Find a fancy font you love, bring it into the program of choice. I used Regal. You must separate the letter by using a rectangular shape and break the letter apart then you can move the sections up and down. Size another rectangle and then copy it. Place the rectangles in blank space in the letter.  Once you are happy with the placement “join” or union the entire piece together. Finally add your word of choice in the center. For mine, I have the word FAMILY.

Cut out the image on the cutter of choice. Let me tell you, the weeding can be tedious, but it is worth it in the end. Be careful because some of the cuts are thin and you could lose them as you are removing the excess vinyl. Take the transfer tape and rub it until you can easily lift the vinyl from the backing. Carefully apply the vinyl and rub vigorously. Slowly remove the transfer tape….and viola a beautiful tile that was inexpensive and took less than 30 minutes from start to finish!

I hope you enjoyed today’s project! Thanks for stopping by, Krafthead~

It's Your Anniversary!

Hello Krafters!

Spring/summer is known as Wedding Season! My girlfriend celebrated her one year wedding anniversary in May. I am so proud of how much she has grown and matured during this year as a wife. As a gift, I wanted to make them something special. I asked for ideas on a forum and Gina linked a picture of a tile her friend Tracy did. I have done my fair share of tiles, but nothing like this! I was instantly drawn to it and decided that was the perfect gift! So this project was lifted from Tracy.

This is a 6.5”x6.5” tile I purchased at a home improvement store. I printed a picture of them on their wedding day (it is my favorite) on tissue paper. I decided to use a color photo because it popped more off of the tile. I cut the letters in vinyl using my Cameo. I used Mod Podge to adhere the photo and to seal the tile. Once it was dry, I tied some tulle around the tile and glued on a curly rose from I Am Roses along with a spray I had in my stash.

So they can showcase their tile, I put together an easel which is a Silhouette Studio file. I could not believe how easy it is to put together AND how sturdy it is! A tile is NOT light! One of the best purchases to date J

I hope you enjoyed today’s project! It was fun to make! Thanks for stopping by, Krafthead~

Marla Tile

Hello Krafters!
January is full of birthdays of friends and family of mine! My Pastor’s birthday was this weekend and I would like to share a gift I made for her using vinyl. It is a simple 4x4 tile that was personalized just for her! She really liked it and it goes with her office perfectly! My Pastor (her husband) says he wants one LOL.
I bought the tile on clearance from Menard’s (home improvement store here in Wisconsin). It comes in a package of eight tiles. I used my gypsy to design various phrases that represent the many hats she wear. While the Cricut was busy cutting the vinyl, I used brown Momento Ink to stamp an image on the tile. Once the ink dried, I applied the vinyl to the tile and sealed it with acrylic sealer (glossy).
NOTE:  The tile does not have to be sealed unless used as a coaster. If you use StazOn, it does not need to be sealed.
I hope you enjoyed this quick and simple yet meaningful project! It only takes minutes to put together from start to finish. Thanks for stopping by, Krafthead~
